Beer Tasting Dinner

January 27, 2010

We are launching, in March, a regular once a month beer dinner. Where we match a number of dishes with beer as well as cook with beer. The dinners will be limited to 24 persons and can be booked at different dates for birthdays, bucks, special or corporate events.

Our aim is to showcase the different flavours of the different styles of beer, as well as introduce the concept of beer with desert or an accompaniment to food in general as an alternative to wine.

So I have organised a test dinner if you like. a dinner of regulars and social media followers to test the food, beer and overall experience, so we can deliver a superior quality product at the right price to the consumer. Sort of, a focus group, though i don’t know how focussed it will be after 7 different beers. That’s the gig and somebody has to do it.

What to cook?? I am torn between wanting to showcase grass fed beef in all dishes and showing off the private dining room. Do I stick to the classic combinations of oyster and stout or offer up a meat pie, or do I try to expand the palate of all who come.

Here are my initial thoughts about the menu.

Start with grass fed angus pure beef tartare on cruets as a welcome starter matched with Moo Brew Hef or Wicked Elf Whit beir.

18 mth Jamon Serrano matched with Murrays or Bullocks Pilsner.

Oysters either natural or with a kilpatrick of MUMU BBQ sauce and Boks bacon matching will depend on how i do it.

Slow cooked pork shoulder cooked in beer and sage matched with Crakenback or Pigs Fly Pale Ale.

Angus pure T-Bone cooked Tagilatta style slow cooked with rosemary and garlic

Braised Cuttlefish and Chorizo matched with Red Emperor Red Ale.

And Lastly Sour Cherry Chocolate Tart with Moo Brew Dark ale or Oyster Stout.

sounds great although i think oysters should be served perhaps first? i think showcasing different meats rather than the same grass fed beef in all dishes would be better β€” it’s too much of an overload on the palette to have the same thing. hope it all goes really well with the focus group unless i get invited myself of course πŸ™‚ always happy to help out with an extra stomach πŸ˜‰

    Sounds Fantastic!

    Love the idea & menu.

Have you considered a quick little cheese course too?
Just to really fly ion the face of traditionalists.

    cheers

UNfortunately the website is not up to selling gift certificates yet.
You can easily call the restaurant and get them.
